In the interview with Ukrainian TV channels, President Petro Poroshenko informed that the main goal of his participation in the events within the 70th session of the UN General Assembly would be to strengthen the international coalition in support of Ukraine and insist on the necessity of reformation of the UN Security Council in the context of veto right.

The Head of State also noted that significant number of bilateral meetings was planned within the visit to the United States. According to him, it is the evidence of substantial interest of other countries in Ukraine. "Strong coalition, unity and solidarity with Ukraine is vital for our country," the President said. Petro Poroshenko reminded that the decision of the UN General Assembly approved by 100 member-states had been one of the first international responses that condemned illegal annexation of Crimea.

"The topic of the 70th General Assembly is based on three priorities - peace, security and human rights. I don't know any other country for which these words would be as topical as for Ukraine," the President noted. The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine was fighting for peace on its territory, global security, human rights, rights of Ukrainian war prisoners, IDPs and people who stay in the occupied areas.

The President expects highly coordinated efforts to reform the UN Security Council. "We should restrict the veto right of permanent members of the UN Security Council in case of mass killings of people. Even from a moral point of view, the use of the veto in such cases is a license to kill. For today, it significantly obstructs fair and unbiased investigation, as well as the use of instruments and tools that are at the disposal of the UN," Petro Poroshenko said. According to him, this initiative is endorsed by many countries, because after 70 years certain structures and rules of the UN must be reformed.

Ukraine is hopeful to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2016-2017. The President and Ukrainian diplomats are doing everything possible to achieve positive result during the vote on October 15 .
