President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes that Ukraine, as independent and sovereign state, will determine the status of its territories or the regime of local self-government independently.
"Any pressure on Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities or me personally is impossible. I will not allow this pressure. We will be guided solely by the interests of Ukraine," the Head of State said in the interview to "Inter" TV channel commenting on gossips about alleged pressure on Ukraine by the EU regarding the provision of special status for Donbas.
He also emphasized that the right to determine the regime of local self-government belongs solely to the people of Ukraine and its elected representatives - Parliament and President.
Speaking of special regime of local self-government in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Petro Poroshenko emphasized that Ukraine had fulfilled all its obligations under the Minsk process - respective law had been adopted.
"All our obligations are reflected in this law," the President said.
According to the Head of State, the given law was taken into account during the elaboration of amendments to the Constitution. "It is important for real representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk to take part in the elaboration of these amendments," Petro Poroshenko noted.
After the approval of constitutional amendments in the Parliament, this issue will be finally settled, as stated by the President.
The Head of State emphasized that respective initiatives had been endorsed by the Venice Commission. This formulation of the draft law on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine will be submitted to the Parliament.
