The Embassy of Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates has initiated the Month of Ukraine in the UAE. The program brings together cultural, educational, humanitarian, and business events dedicated to Ukraine, its identity, and its contemporary voice in the world.
The symbolic opening event of the Month of Ukraine was the launch of the “Book Oasis” bookshelf. The initiative began the program with the word, language, book, and reading as fundamental elements of national identity.
As noted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the UAE, Dr. Oleksandr Balanutsa, it is through the word that cultural space is shaped, historical memory is preserved, and dialogue is built. A book serves as an instrument of mutual understanding and trust.
“Book Oasis” was implemented in partnership with the Ukrainian Women’s Initiative in the UAE. The project goes beyond a library initiative and represents Ukraine’s cultural presence abroad, preserving language, meanings, and continuity regardless of geography.
The initiative continued with the opening of a “Book Oasis” at the Consulate of Ukraine in Dubai. The new space of the Ukrainian word and living memory is intended to support reading, promote the Ukrainian language, and create an environment for meetings and cultural exchange.
During the opening, on behalf of the Ukrainian Akhawat community — the first Ukrainian Muslim community outside Ukraine — a Ukrainian translation of the meanings of the Qur’an, the books “Discover Islam,” “The Biography of the Prophet Muhammad,” and children’s Islamic literature were donated. The community unites Ukrainian Muslim women in the UAE and supports cultural and educational initiatives.
The “Book Oasis” project affirms the book as a bearer of memory, identity, and cultural continuity. Through the word, a shared space is preserved and meanings are passed on to future generations.
Ukraine reads. Ukraine speaks. Ukraine is near.
