On February 24, 2026, the Ukrainian community in Abu Dhabi, together with diplomats and friends of Ukraine, marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale aggression. The events combined cultural, educational, and memorial elements, emphasizing the importance of support and solidarity with Ukraine.

As part of the Ukrainian evening “Hearts Wounded, Spirit Strong,” Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine from the UAE gathered to honor the memory of the victims and highlight the daily choice to remain Ukrainian. The event was opened by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UAE, Dr. Oleksandr Balanutsa, who presented the Borodyanka rooster as a symbol of resilience. The evening also featured an exhibition for World Vyshyvanka Day titled “Heritage Beyond Reach.” Children and talented Ukrainian artists participated with open-mic performances.

Later in the evening, Oleksandr Balanutsa, together with EU Ambassador Lucy Berger and Cyprus Ambassador Meropi Christofi, held an official commemorative event attended by diplomats and representatives of foreign countries. The program included musical performances by students of the Grazioso Music Institute and an exhibition of Ukrainian cultural heritage objects under UNESCO protection. In his speech, the Ambassador thanked partners for their support, stressed the importance of humanitarian aid, and called for strengthened international solidarity to ensure Ukraine’s recovery and security.

On the same day, embassy representatives also attended the opening of the installation “Inescapability | Fragments” by artist and New York University Abu Dhabi lecturer Valeriya Holovina. The work explores the trauma of forced displacement, invisible scars, and fragmented memory, offering viewers a chance to experience the inner struggles of those affected by loss.

The events in Abu Dhabi showcased the unity of the Ukrainian community and diplomatic corps, cultural resilience, and the crucial role of international support for Ukraine in these challenging times.
